Álvaro  spoke to the media ahead of the match against Olympiacos (Wednesday, 9 pm CET): “I'm delighted to be involved in my first season here, especially the Champions League, which is so important for the club. Olympiacos are a tough side, we're going to their home ground and it's going to be difficult, but we're really looking forward to the game and focused on getting the three points.”
 
“The atmosphere in the dressing room, as I said when I arrived, is amazing. We have an incredible group, from the manager to the 25 players who make up the squad. There's a great vibe in the dressing room and we all get on really well. We have a young squad, but the veterans help us when we need to get serious. I'm really happy to be part of this squad.”
 
Involvement in his first season
“Whenever I arrive at a new place, I try and believe that I will perform at my best. I hope to get many more minutes in a long season with lots of matches. I was fully confident that everything would go well and that it would continue that way.”
 
Position on the pitch with injuries at the back
“As I said on my presentation, I'm here to help the team. My position is left-back, but I can play as a centre-back, wing-back, in a back five, a back four, or whatever the manager asks of me at any given time.”
 
Does he like to analyse the opposition or just go out and enjoy himself on the pitch?
“A bit of everything. I like to analyse the opposition, the matches, the teams, although sometimes I'm not sure which players are going to play. I like to analyse them. That depends on each individual, but I also like to go out and enjoy myself, which is the beauty of football.”
 
Is there more respect for Real Madrid in Europe than in La Liga?
“No team likes playing against Real Madrid. It's difficult. It's a club with a long history and a big name. I haven't had the privilege or the bad luck of playing against Real Madrid. We go to every stadium hungry to win and showing character, pushing forward and going for the three points, which is the most important thing.”
