Madrid out of Copa del Rey
3 hour(s)
Real Madrid were eliminated in the last 16 of the Copa del Rey after losing in Albacete with a goal from the hosts in the 94th minute. Mastantuono and Gonzalo were on target for our team in a game dominated by the fog that covered the Carlos Belmonte in the opening minutes, during which barely any threatening chances were created except for two long-range shots from Valverde. Albacete managed to open the scoring on the stroke of half-time and in one of their first chances of the game. Javi Villar headed home from a corner in the 43rd minute. Madrid levelled in first-half injury time and it was also from a set-piece. Arda Güler swung in a corner, Huijsen's header was saved by Raúl Lizoain and Mastantuono pounced to tun in the rebound.
The score was 1-1 at half-time and after the break, Arbeloa's side's control of the game increased. They almost took the lead again from a set piece. Arda Güler took a free-kick in the 68th minute and Gonzalo's header narrowly missed the target.
Real Madrid kept pushing, with Palacios and Manuel Ángel making their debuts, but in the 82nd minute, Jefté made it 2-1 for Albacete. There were just over ten minutes left to equalise and the Whites grabbed an equaliser in stoppage time after a series of corners. Arda Güler played the ball in again and this time it was Gonzalo who scored with a beautiful header. Everything seemed destined for extra time, but in the dying moments of the game, Jefté scored and sent Albacete through to the next round.
