A point with nine men in the reserve team derby

18 hour(s)

Castilla drew one apiece against Atlético B in the derby at the Alfredo Di Stéfano stadium. Our reserve team took the lead in the 4th minute with a goal by Víctor Muñoz, but conceded on the stroke of half-time. Raúl's team had to play for most of the second half with a numerical disadvantage due to sending offs for Chema ('63) and Loren Zúñiga ('78). In the final minutes, Castilla managed to defend the point with a fine performance from Mario de Luis and have now gone 14 games unbeaten.
Raúl's men took an early lead thanks to a goal by Víctor MuñozMario Rivas played a long pass and the striker, in an example of how to battle, brushed off two Atletico centre backs, cut inside the area and finished past Iturbe. Castilla dominated possession thanks to a high press which allowed them to recover the ball quickly and create a lot of danger on both flanks. It wasn't until the 25th minute that the red and whites started to open up and began to reach the Madrid area. In the 40th minute, an unfortunate play led to the visitors' equalizer after Janneh took advantage of several rebounds inside the area to score.
Castilla hold on with nine
The Madrid reserve team regained their rhythm and speed in their play at the start of the second half. They went in search of a goal and Víctor Muñoz, the reserve team's dangerman, created a play that almost made it 2-1 with a powerful shot that grazed the post in the 59th minute. But the game took a turn for the worse. Four minutes later, when the home side were at their best, Chema was shown a second yellow card. With ten players, the Red and Whites could breathe. Raúl turned to his bench in the following minutes with five changes. However, Loren Zúñiga also received his second yellow card. Even so, Castilla stood firm and fought with nine players to take the game forward. The visitors pressed forward but found themselves up against a magnificent Mario de Luis, who made three vital saves to keep the scoreboard from changing.
