Valverde: "It's a real blow because we'd been on a great run of results"

Valverde spoke to the press following the clash with Liverpool at Anfield: “We came here to try and win the game, to take the 3 points. We know it's a really tough place to come, they really pile the pressure on. I think we had chances. In the end, we lost on a dead-ball situation when we should have defended it much better."
“There were three set-pieces in a row where they got headers on goal. We knew they were strong from set-pieces and we had to be stronger than them, defend better, with more desire and attitude."
What was the team lacking?
“We were more in control in the first half. Both sides had good chances, but we felt comfortable on the ball. We needed to get more bodies into the box when we were going forward. We were perhaps a bit too defensively minded at times, because we know how quick they are on the counter."
Missed opportunity?
“We wanted to win it. It's always nice to win games here, we managed it the once. It's special. Today, it wasn't to be. We want to thank the fans, who came out despite the weather. We have to keep growing. It's a real blow because we'd been on a great run of results but the important thing is to pick ourselves up, just like we did after the Atlético game, and to stay strong."
Discomfort in his abductor
“I don't know if it was a muscle issue or just a funny movement, but I felt it. We'll have to wait and see."
