On 13 September 1953, Gento made his official Real Madrid debut. It came in a LaLiga meeting with Osasuna, which our team won 2-0, and marked the beginning of the Cantabrian’s legendary Real Madrid career that would go on to last 18 seasons. Gento was the first player to reach 600 games for the club, scoring 182 goals.
He gathered a spectacular trophy haul during his time with Real Madrid, including an incredible 6 European Cups. He also clinched 1 Intercontinental Cup, 2 Copas Latinas, 12 LaLiga titles. 2 Copas de España and 1 Small World Cup. His significance to the club and world football saw him named Honorary President of Real Madrid by the Members Assembly back in 2016, a position he held until his death on the 18th of January 2022.
