10 hour(s)
Real Madrid were defeated in extra time in the final of the Copa del Rey. In a strong second half, Madrid came back from Pedri's goal in the 28th minute with a free-kick from Mbappé in the 70th minute and a header from Tchouameni seven minutes later. In the 84th minute, Ferrán Torres scored to take the game into extra time, which was decided by Koundé in the 116th minute with a shot from the edge of the area.
The game started with Barcelona in control and creating a number of chances. Raphinha swung in a free-kick and Koundé's header was met by a great save from Courtois to send the ball out for a corner. In the next attack, on 28’, the Catalans took the lead with a strike from Pedri from the edge of the area. Real Madrid recovered and equalised in the 35th minute after a brilliant pass from Ceballos and a superb finish from Bellingham, but it was ruled out for offside against the Englishman. And it could have been 2-0 from 1-1 when Olmo delivered a corner in the 43rd minute and the ball sailed across the box before crashing against the post.
Spectacular second half
After the interval, Mbappé replaced Rodrygo and in the 49th minute the equaliser almost arrived. Bellingham won the ball back in the opposition half and played a through ball to Vini Jr, whose first shot crashed against Szczęsny's body, and the keeper did well to turn the ball behind for a corner. Five minutes later, Mbappé's skill saw him dribble past Cubarsi with a stepover, but he was unable to beat the keeper with his subsequent effort. The Whites were improving on the La Cartuja pitch and had another chance in the 56th minute, but Szczęsny and Cubarsí prevented Vini Jr.’s shot from hitting the back of the net.
Mbappé and Tchouameni strike
Madrid's improvement was evident. They were winning back a lot of balls in the opposition half and another ball recovery, this time by Modrić at on 60‘, saw Vini Jr’s long-range shot just miss the target. Real Madrid had at least deserved to equalise and did so ten minutes later with a fabulous free-kick from Mbappé that went in off the post. It was all square, but Ancelotti's men changed the balance of the match in the 77th minute. Arda Güler swung in a corner and Tchouameni put the ball into the net with a magnificent header.
It was 1-2 with just over ten minutes to go. And when Madrid were at their strongest, Ferrán Torres equalised. It was a wonderful contest and it went into extra time, although in stoppage time Raphinha went to ground after a tackle by Asencio inside the area and De Burgos Bengoetxea awarded a penalty. He was alerted by the VAR referee and after observing the incident on the monitor, he overruled his decision and cautioned the Barça winger for simulation.
Extra time
The two teams went into extra time exhausted and there were few chances in the first half apart from a shot from Ferrán Torres in the 105th minute that went narrowly wide. And in the second half, Real Madrid had a chance with a cross from Arda Güler in the 113th minute that curled in and almost caught out Szczęsny. Three minutes later, Koundé decided the final with a strike from the edge of the area.
