Format
The competition is organized by the Premier League. It takes place entirely in England and is for under-21 players. It consists of 4 groups of 8 teams. Each group includes 4 English teams and 4 invited European teams, which only faced the English teams.

The top two teams from each group advance to the quarterfinals. The semifinal and final are also single matches. This is the first time Real Madrid Castilla is participating in the tournament.
