Real Madrid held to draw by Deportivo

1 month(s)

Real Madrid claimed a point against Deportivo at the Alfredo Di Stéfano stadium. The Galician side opened the scoring in the first half following a controversial penalty decision. Carla Camacho equalised early in the second half, but Antonia S. netted an own goal to give the visitors the lead again. In the final exchanges of the clash, Olga made it 2-2 from the penalty spot.

Real Madrid started the game with high pressing as they looked to gain an early lead. First, Athenea had an angled drive that went just wide of the post (16'), and then Angeldahl had an effort from the edge of the area that was easily saved by the keeper. Despite the Madridistas' persistence, Olaya gave Deportivo the lead in the 24th minute after converting a penalty following a foul by Antonia S. Madrid found it more difficult to penetrate the opposition penalty area, but they kept looking for the equaliser. María Méndez had the chance to restore parity before the break when her drive from the edge of the area sailed just over.

The goals keep coming
After the restart, the Whites upped the tempo and the goal was soon to come. Eight minutes into the second half, Toletti took a free kick and Carla Camacho headed home to level the scores. On the hour mark, however, when Antonia S. tried to clear an opposition cross, she accidentally turned the ball into our net. But the Madridistas did not give up and, in the 82nd minute, Linda C. was brought down inside the Deportivo area. Olga converted the spot-kick to make it 2-2. Madrid continued in pursuit of finding a winner, but the score remained the same. The Whites must now look ahead to the clash against Arsenal in the quarter-finals of the Uefa Champions League (Tuesday, 6.45 pm CET).
