Real Madrid cruise past Betis at the Di Stéfano

2 week(s)

Real Madrid secured a resounding victory over Betis at the Alfredo Di Stéfano. The Whites were rampant on Liga F matchday 26, sealing the win in the first half with five goals. Weir put the Madridistas ahead from the penalty spot, Bruun scored twice and M. Méndez and Angeldahl put the result beyond doubt. Zouhir scored our opponents' only goal in the 45th minute. It was a brilliant performance from Toril's side, who secured their 22nd victory of the season.
The match couldn't have started better for Real Madrid, taking the lead in the 9th minute after Weir converted a penalty after Dorine’s foul on Feller. Our team dominated and the action was concentrated in the Betis area. After several threats against the Betis goal, the afternoon’s second goal came in the 24th minute. Bruun got her head on the end of Olga’s measured cross from the left to make it 2-0. Shortly afterwards, M. Méndez scored the third from a corner (28'), also with a header.
It was a good spell for the Madridistas, who widened their lead further before the break. Angeldahl made it 4-0 with a right-footed thunderbolt from inside the area and, three minutes later, Bruun completed her brace with a fantastic long-range shot that flew into the top corner. Betis pulled one back in the 45th minute through Zouhir.
No goals in the second half
The pace of the game changed in the second half, although Real Madrid still monopolised the ball and looked to create space against a more compact opposition defence. Toletti and Shei had chances to add further gloss to the win, but the score remained unchanged. It was a brilliant performance from Toril's side, who secured their 22nd league win of the season.
