On to the Spanish Super Cup final

1 month(s)

Real Madrid beat Real Sociedad and go on to play the Spanish Super Cup final on Sunday against Barcelona in Leganés. Toril‘s side took the lead in the fourth minute through Weir, only for Amaiur to equalise soon after (10’). Angeldahl put Madrid back in front in the 37th minute following a cross-shot from Linda Caicedo, who rounded off a fine performance in the semi-final by making it 3-1 in the 72nd minute. Amaiur made it 3-2 in stoppage time.
The Whites took very little time to take the lead. Bruun failed to get on the end of a good cross from Olga, but Weir was alert enough to pick up the rebound in the box and beat Lete. However, Real Sociedad equalised through Amaiur. It was all square in the early stages of the game, but as the minutes ticked by, Madrid took control of the ball. With Linda Caicedo bursting down the flank, Toril's side sought to regain the lead. Angeldahl did just that in the 37th minute capitalising on a cross-shot after a pass from the Colombian.
After the restart, our team looked to put the game to bed. The referee could have awarded a penalty when Athenea was brought down in the box in a duel with Emma but decided not to after reviewing the incident on the VAR. In the 72nd minute, Linda Caicedo extended the lead with a great individual move. In stoppage time, Amaiur scored to make it 3-2. On Sunday, Real Madrid will be looking to win the title in the final against Barcelona at Butarque (12:00pm CET).
