This year marks the fifth anniversary of the death of one of the greatest players in the history of Real MadridGoyo Benito. On 2 April 2020, the legendary defender passed away at the age of 73 after a long illness that lasted more than a decade.

Goyo Benito was born on 21 October 1946 in El Puente del Arzobispo (Toledo) and was a key member of the Real Madrid defence for thirteen seasons, from 1969 to 1982. He played 420 official matches at our club and won 6 LaLiga titles and 5 Spanish Cups. With great athletic ability and trained in the club's youth ranks, he belonged to the generation of footballers who took over from the 'yéyé' Real Madrid. He was also capped 22 times by Spain.
