Madrid mount comeback against Twente

11 hour(s)

Real Madrid moved one step closer to qualification for the Women’s Champions League quarter-finals this evening with a win over Twente. The madridistas were forced to come from behind following Ravensbergen's opener, but goals for Linda Caicedo in the first half, and Bruun and Alba Redondo after the break, clinched a third win in the competition so far. Te Brake netted in the final minute to make it 2-3. If Celtic lose our draw against Chelsea (9:00pm), our team will be mathematically certain of a place in the next round.
The game became an uphill battle before the half-hour mark came around when Ravensbergen put Twente in front by turning home a Tuin free-kick. Madrid responded quickly, but Bruun's powerful header was held by the goalkeeper. Toril's team did manage to pull themselves level before half-time though. Linda C. kicked the move off on the left flank, beating two opponents and getting a shot off which was beaten away by the hosts' goalkeeper. Toletti pounced on the rebound but her shot was blocked by a defender, only to fall back at the feet of the Colombian, who made it 1-1.
Bruun and Alba Redondo complete the comeback
After the break, Madrid came out in search of the winner. With 61 minutes played, Bruun's shot across goal skimmed just past the post, before Feller fired over the bar. Ten minutes later, the Dane had the goal that put the visitors into the lead, making no mistake to beat Clark from Linda C.'s perfect assist. Twente looked to hit back in the closing stages, but Alba Redondo finished off a slick counter to make sure of the points. In time added on, Te Brake struck to take the score to 2-3.
