Defeat against Barcelona

4 day(s)

Real Madrid came away from the first Clásico of the season at the Alfredo Di Stéfano empty-handed. The match was heavily influenced by an early goal after just four minutes, which forced Toril's side to look for a comeback. Guijarro gave the visitors the lead hitting home a corner kick from the far post. Redondo, in the Whites' clearest chance of the first half, came close to equalising in the 8th minute with a shot inside the six-yard box that Paredes saved at the last moment.
The game would only get more complicated before the break. Barcelona extended the lead on two further occasions. First, with a powerful shot from the edge of the area by Guijarro in the 22nd minute, and then with a shot from the penalty spot by Pina that Misa could do nothing about. The Madrid goalkeeper was the best performer for the home side in the first half.

Second-half parity
The second half substitutions of Toletti for Angeldahl, Bruun for Redondo, and Linda C. for Teresa, gave Real Madrid more attacking presence. Toril's team found depth on the flanks and that was where the danger came from. Weir, Olga and Bruun, on two occasions, came very close to pulling one back in 20 minutes in which we took control of the game. The madridistas didn't stop trying in the final stretch but the blaugranas, with the result in their favour, managed to score the fourth goal thanks to Alexia Putellas in the dying embers.
