Valverde scooped the Mahou Cinco Estrellas Player of the Month award for August. The midfielder received this accolade at Real Madrid City in recognition of his outstanding performances over the past month. The Uruguayan played the full 90 minutes in all four of the team's matches and scored twice. He was the first goalscorer of the season after opening the scoring in the Uefa Super Cup final and he was also on target against Valladolid on matchday two of LaLiga.

"I'd like to thank the people who voted for me to receive this award and also the team, who are part of this. We're just starting the season, we have a lot to compete for and a long road ahead of us. We're working hard, we're united and humble. We're all going in the same direction and that's going to be crucial to achieving our objectives. I'm pleased with the award and I hope we can continue to win trophies this year," said the Uruguayan.
