Real Madrid come from behind with a flurry of goals

1 month(s)

Real Madrid clinched a fourth consecutive win in their clash with Espanyol. They were forced to come from behind to take another three points, following Courtois' unfortunate 54th-minute own goal, but Ancelotti's boys produced a near-flawless 40 minutes, with goals for CarvajalRodrygo, Vini Jr. and Mbappé, who has now found the net in all four victories. Our team came out in dominant fashion, looking to put the game to bed early on. They were close to taking the lead twice in quick succession with just 11 minutes gone. A fine piece of play started by Fran García's cross was sweetly nodded into the path of Mbappé by the astute Arda Güler, but the Frenchman drove straight at Joan García. The resulting corner was met by a towering Militão header that whistled just wide of the target.

Chances continue to flow
Our team continued their search for the opener and Mbappé's movement was causing Espanyol all kinds of problems. He linked nicely with Rodrygo on 21’, shooting from just inside the box only for Joan García to keep him out again. One minute on, Modrić laid an inch-perfect ball in behind the defence, but the forward's left-footed effort was met by the inspired visiting goalkeeper once more.

The second half began as the first had ended, with another Mbappé attempt, this time on the turn. Espanyol hit back with a couple of long-range efforts. The first, from Jofre, took a flick off Militão and flew narrowly over the bar on 47'. The second, just a minute later, came from the boots of C. Romero and nearly caught Courtois out. These were the first real chances for the visitors, who then took the lead fortuitously with 54 minutes on the clock. Jofre whipped the ball across the box, where it struck Courtois on the heel and ended up in the back of the net.

Madrid hit back quickly
Ancelotti's side wasted no time in reacting in quite spectacular fashion, levelling the game just four minutes later. Valverde's fierce drive from the edge of the box fell to C. Romero, but Bellingham won the ball back cleverly and squeezed his cross underneath Joan García, where Carvajal was waiting to smash home on the line and make it 1-1. Our team were laser-focused on completing the comeback, and it duly materialised on 75’. Vini Jr.'s sublime assist with the outside of his right boot left Rodrygo to simply turn into an empty net.

Real Madrid then threw caution to the wind and put the game totally to bed with a sublime transition. Mbappé laid the ball in for Vini Jr. on 79’, and the Brazilian beat the goalkeeper when through one-on-one. All the Frenchman's impressive display was lacking now was a goal. And with 90 minutes on the clock, he converted from the spot after C. Romero had wrestled Endrick to the ground in the box. Mbappé has now scored in the last four successive games, hitting five of his total six for the season. Three points and onto the next one for our team.
