Madrid under-19s win at Liverpool to progress to last 32 of Youth League

The Real Madrid Under-19s came away with all three points on their visit to Liverpool’s Academy Ground and mathematically secured their place in the last 32 of the Uefa Youth League. Arbeloa’s players overcame the English side on the fifth and penultimate matchday courtesy of a goal from Yáñez three minutes after the kick-off. Their final game of this phase will be against away to Atalanta.
The Madridista academy side got off to the best possible start. Three minutes after the kick-off, Izan headed a clearance from the goalkeeper in the middle of the pitch, Yáñez collected the ball and shot just inside the post from the edge of the area to beat Misciur and put the Whites ahead. The two teams continued to look for a goal, but a lack of clinical finishing and the goalkeepers' efforts meant that the score remained unchanged at half-time.
Academy side maintain their lead
After the interval, the home side upped the tempo of the game. Álvaro prevented an equaliser in the 49th minute when he saved a powerful header from Kone-Doherty in the six-yard box. The visitors replied immediately and Fortea almost doubled the lead, but Misciur turned the ball away. Madrid gradually regained control and created numerous chances to add a second. However, the score remained the same, Real Madrid picked up three valuable points that secured their place in the last 32.
