Juvenil A comes from behind to secure a spot in the Final Four of the Youth League
2 hour(s)
Juvenil A defeated Sporting Portugal with goals from Jacobo and Roberto in the single-match quarter-final held at Di Stefano, securing their place in the Final Four of the UEFA Youth League, which will take place from April 17 to 20 at the Stade de la Tuilière in Lausanne, Switzerland. There, they will face PSG in the semi-finals, who defeated Villarreal.
The madridista reserves dominated the first half, where they did not deserve to trail on the scoreboard. They were the ones creating chances, with Lezcano as the protagonist, and even a penalty on Yáñez was not awarded. However, a defensive error right before halftime allowed Sporting Lisbon to take the lead with a goal from Gonçalves.
Álvaro López's team continued pressing in the second half and created clear opportunities. Ciria struck the post with a volley following a corner kick in the 46th minute. Five minutes later, Juvenil A was rewarded with the equalizing goal. Carlos Díez delivered a brilliant pass to Jacobo, who finished with his left foot, surpassing both the defender and the advancing goalkeeper. The visitors regained momentum, and Gabriel Silva nearly scored again with a header that hit the post. However, the reserves stood firm and responded with the effectiveness they lacked in the first half.
Roberto seals the comeback
In the 63rd minute, the second madridista goal arrived, completing the comeback with a brilliant strike from Roberto outside the box, assisted once again by Carlos Díez. Madrid reflected their superiority, but it was time to defend the lead. They did so with solid defense and actions from Illia Voloshyn, thwarting any Portuguese attempts to equalize. Yáñez nearly scored the third with an individual effort that ended in Gouveia's hands. The score remained unchanged, and the reserves secured their place in the Final Four.
