Courtois: "We defended well and we were able to convert the chances we had"

Courtois spoke to Real Madrid TV about our team's away win against Villarreal. After the match, the goalkeeper said: "From the start, we took the initiative, both in pressing high up the pitch and in what the coach wanted, from side to side. Villarreal are a team that play very narrowly, very compactly, and we had to pivot and then look for one-on-ones. They defended well, we defended well, with a clean sheet, we didn't give them many chances and we were able to take the ones we had.”
“We're adapting better and better to the coach's ideas. As a team, together, we're all improving. When you win, everything is easier and there's more confidence, and when there's more confidence, everything goes better.”
Clean sheet
"A lot of credit. Games against Villarreal are usually tough. Today we defended very well, they had a few chances but I think they only had one shot on goal and I think we dealt with the rest very well, both the defence and the whole team. That's why it's commendable to keep a clean sheet and that helps us to go to Lisbon and do the same. We're going there to win to secure a top-eight finish and give ourselves some time, because after the match against Rayo, if we do our job on Wednesday, we'll have plenty of time to rest and train. We need to be in perfect shape for the final stretch of the League.”
Team unity
“It's important. It's something we've always had, but sometimes when things get tough, I'm not saying they get worse, but the unity is very good. There has never been a problem and everyone is pulling in the same direction. That unity is important because football is a team sport, not an individual one, and for some players to stand out, it's important for the team to stand out together. Then, through talent and quality, others can stand out individually. But first, if we do it as a team, the rest will follow.”
How much do Mbappé and Vini Jr. give you?
"A lot. In the end, they really throw other teams off balance. They're a nightmare for the defence. You can stop them for 60, 65, 70 or 75 minutes, but they have so much quality and are so quick that at some point there's always going to be that hole. I hope they can continue to give us those moments of joy. It's not just them, it's all of us, and there are many others who can contribute in attack."
