Courtois: "It's nice to mark my 300th appearance with a win and some good saves too"

Courtois played his 300th game in Real Madrid colours in the clash with Juventus. Following the final whistle, our goalkeeper reflected: "I'm delighted with the win. I'm really happy, it's nice to mark my 300th Real Madrid appearance with a 1-0 win, a decent performance and some good saves. I think my best stop today was the one-on-one with Vlahović. It was really good from a technical point of view."

"It was a really hard-fought game with chances at both ends. We really had to sweat to win it. It's a big win, especially against another great side. That's 9 from 9 now. Next up we head to Anfield, so we'll see what happens. We've started well and we just have to keep working hard."

The opposition
“This is Juventus we're talking about, they're not a small team. When they defend in a low block with eleven men and look to strike on the counter, it's not easy. We need to find a bit more rhythm, as the gaffer said at half-time. With the wingers staying out wide, we posed much more threat, Vini in particular. They hurt us a few times in the first half when they played through the press and that's something we have to improve on ahead of Sunday."

Save against Vlahović
“The coach wants me to play high up, but when the ball comes in like that, I'm not the quickest. It looked like Militão was going to get there, but Vlahović is a great forward and I'm there to help out. I'm happy with the stop."

Bellingham's goal
“That's what I like about those kinds of players. Vini Jr. made the move and he was alert to the rebound, he knew it could fall where he was placed. He's rediscovering his best form. It was a great performance by Jude, and by the whole team. We could have done with that 2-0 so we could be a bit more relaxed, but we're happy with the result in the end."

Feelings ahead of the Clásico
“Both teams are in good shape. It's going to be a great match, having lost a few times to them last year. It's important that we win this year. We can open up a bit of a gap in LaLiga and I'm sure it'll be a massive game. Two really good sides and I'm hoping for a win for us. We have to respect them and prepare really well."

His numbers
Courtois reaches the milestone in his eighth season at the club. His 300 appearances (196 wins) have come spread across: 209 in LaLiga, 63 in the Champions League, 8 in the Copa del Rey, 9 in the Spanish Super Cup, 9 in the Club World Cup, and 2 in the European Super Cup. He has kept 119 clean sheets in that time.

Courtois' historic saves have contributed to a total of 14 titles as a madridista. Since making his Real Madrid debut in September 2018, he's also won the FIFA The Best Goalkeeper (2018), the Yashin Trophy (2022) and LaLiga's Zamora trophy (2019/20). Last campaign saw him play his highest number of games in a single season (53).
