Castila loses to the league leaders

1 month(s)

Real Madrid Castilla lost to Castellón. Our reserve team, who played an excellent first half, had the clearest chances and deserved at least a draw, but the match was decided by the visitors' better finishing and the performance of a very inspired Gonzalo, who saved his team with several very commendable saves.

The game started with a lot of pace and the chances soon began to flood in. The first was for Castilla after eight minutes. Palacios stole the ball and Gonzalo, after a great pass from Álvaro, was one-on-one with the visiting keeper, who came out on top. Castellón's reaction came two minutes later and it proved to be decisive as De Miguel put his side ahead. The 1-0 scoreline did not affect our reserve team, who began to create some clear chances that deserved to end in, at least, an equaliser. However, time and time again they came up against an inspired Gonzalo, who again saved another one-on-one, this time with Álvaro in the 14th minute.

Chances
Before the half hour mark, Gonzalo this time beat the visiting keeper one-on-one, but his lofted shot ended up crashing into a Castellón defender. Our team continued to look for a deserved equaliser and could have drawn level in the 32nd minute. Manuel Ángel combined with Palacios, who back-heeled the ball back to him, and the former's tremendous left-footed shot was met by a great save from Gonzalo. It was the last chance of an excellent first half for Raul's side.

Castilla were having no luck and that was evident after the break with a 2-0 away lead in the 52nd minute. Asencio cleared inside the area, but the ball hit Douglas in the face and surprised Cañizares. 2-0 to the leaders. It was even more difficult for Raúl's team, who could have reduced the gap in the 60th minute. Cuenca crossed and the visiting goalkeeper just got enough contact on the ball so that Gonzalo, who was lying in wait to poke the ball home, couldn't quite get there. From then until the end, our reserve team kept trying but to no avail.
