An Mbappé goal earns three points at Getafe
3 hour(s)
Real Madrid beat Getafe at the Coliseum on their return from the international break and regained top spot in the LaLiga table. The winner came in the 79th minute from Mbappé, his 15th goal in 11 appearances for our team this season, following a link-up with Arda Güler that is proving very fruitful this campaign.
Our team dominated from the start and before ten minutes had passed, they had two practically consecutive chances to score, both with Mbappé in the thick of the action. In the first, Soria was more precise in a somewhat off-balance one-on-one, and in the second, having dribbled past Iglesias, the Frenchman's shot from the edge of the area missed the target by just a few centimetres.
From then on, the home side managed to run down the clock without anything happening until, on the stroke of half-time, there were some dangerous moments. Tchouameni's long-range shot in the 37th minute went over the bar and Getafe's response came two minutes later with a left-footed volley from Álex from the edge of the area that flew inches wide of the visitors' goal. In added time, Soria parried Alaba's free kick from and the rebound fell to Valverde, who put his shot too far wide.
Chances
The pace slowed considerably after the break, although our team continued to create dangerous chances. Bellingham spotted Mbappé's run in the 65th minute and threaded a ball behind the defence, but the Frenchman's shot was unable to find the target. He tried again seven minutes later with a free kick from the edge of the box, but the ball flashed inches wide of the home goal.
Mbappé decided the match
In the 76th minute, Nyom, having only just come on, was sent off for a foul on Vini Jr. Straight from the free kick in midfield, the ball reached Arda Güler and the link-up with Mbappé paid dividends again. The Frenchman received the ball with his back to goal and, after bringing it under control, faced Soria and beat him with a powerful shot. It was his fifteenth goal in 11 games this season. In the 84th minute, Getafe were reduced to nine men after Álex received a second yellow card for a foul from behind on Vini Jr. In the last minute, Courtois' superb save from Kamara prevented the score from becoming 1-1 and gave Real Madrid the three points at the Coliseum.
