Álvaro goal hands Castilla victory

Real Madrid Castilla made a winning start to March after ending February in the same way. The academy side picked up their second win on the trot after beating Melilla at the Álvarez Claro stadium on matchday 26 of the Primera Federación. A goal by Álvaro in the 31st minute gave Raúl's side all the three points in a hard-fought match.

The game got off to a high tempo start, but it was Castilla who were the first to go close with a header from Álvaro. The Madrid forward was causing all sorts of problems for the defence and he appealed for a penalty following a challenge inside the area, but the referee waved it away (15 mins). Nine minutes later, Cañizares saved a right-footed effort from Morillo. In the 31st minute, Álvaro robbed Moi in the opposition half and beat the home keeper to make it 1-0 with his left foot. The home side nearly equalised before the break when Morillo's shot went narrowly wide.

Defensive solidity
After the break, Melilla came close again with a curling shot from Sergio Pérez that just missed the top corner of Cañizares' goal. The home side continued to press but the Madrid defence, spearheaded by a great performance from Carrillo, stood no chance. Castilla had two excellent chances to extend their lead in the last few minutes. First, Álvaro had a header that flew over, and in stoppage time, Nico Paz's powerful left-footed drive was blocked by Montoya.
