0-4: Madrid under-19s produce thumping win to close Youth League first phase
1 day(s)
The Real Madrid under-19s defeated Atalanta to record their fourth consecutive win and wrap up the first round of the UEFA Youth League. Goals from Diego Aguado, from the penalty spot, Jacobo Ortega, with a double, and Fortea sealed the victory against a team that had not tasted defeat at home in this competition. After this impressive victory, Arbeloa’s side now await their last-32 opponents in the draw which will be held on Friday 20 December.
Real Madrid bossed possession throughout most of the first half and carved out the best chances of the game. Yáñez was the first to go close with a shot that was saved by the goalkeeper and shortly afterwards Roberto and Mesa also had efforts on goal. The only clear chance for the home side came in the 22nd minute. J. Navarro cleared a free-kick and the rebound fell to Riccio, but his strike went just wide of the post.
Both teams were evenly matched towards the end of the first half. However, the Whites managed to go into the break with the lead after the referee awarded a penalty after Roberto was brought down in the box having gone clear of three defenders. Diego Aguado duly made it 0-1 from the spot.
A brace for Jacobo and a Fortea goal secure the spoils
After the restart, Madrid pushed forward looking to extend the lead. Liberto almost made it 2-0, but the referee disallowed his effort for offside. Shortly afterwards, however, Jacobo Ortega marked a dream debut in the competition by bagging a brace just ten minutes after entering the field of play. His first goal saw him beat the keeper after collecting a loose ball in the area. For his second, he headed in a wonderful cross from Liberto. In the 75th minute, Fortea completed the scoring after a fine piece of play.
